Women Helpline
|
United Indian Associations Inc (UIA) is committed to serve the Indian Diaspora in Asia Pacific Region and also from the mainland. UIA proudly announce the establishing of "Women Helpline".
Over the years there is enormous increase of Indian Migration to Australia. UIA and its member organizations are receiving numerous requests . To help those queries:
A Women’s Subcommittee has been formed by the United Indian Associations (UIA). The purpose of this Subcommittee is to explore women’s issues and to provide a support group for Australian Indian Women, especially newly arrived migrant women, who find themselves isolated in a new country due to their cultural differences and language barriers or difficulties in understanding the Australian accent. The Women's Sub-committee report was discussed and agreed in principle by the UIA Governing Council. This Women's Subcommittee seeks to incorporate names and contacts of other Indian women prepared to offer voluntary support, guidance, and/or referral to specialised services and to provide voluntary services in the fields such as Health, Legal and Counselling.
The Women's Sub-committee members are Monica Bhatia, Neena Sinha, Sumati Advani and Shashi Khandhar.
This Subcommittee aims to hold a Women’s Public Forum in the end of February 2007, in cooperation with the local agencies and service organisations, to identify the current issues and particular needs of Indian Women in Australia. Speakers would be invited from the different Agencies to inform women about the support services available.
Volunteers are invited to contact Monica or Neena on the contact numbers given below to offer their services.
