United Indian Associations Inc which represents 19 different organisations of Indian diaspora in Australia is deeply saddened and stunned by the blatant statement by Hon. Kevin Rudd Foreign Minister of Australia for the reasons of not selling the much needed uranium to India.
“We believe that this issue is based upon a discredited foreign policy of Australian Labor party with the head in the sand attitude.’ said Amarinder Bajwa, the President of United India Association.
“India will be the third largest economy in the world It has an impeccable track record of non proliferation policy on uranium and nuclear usage.”
United India Association is deeply taken back by the statements from the likes of Hon Kevin Rudd party. Yet Hon Martin Ferguson is more positive and forth coming.
Australia needs to actively engage with India now and show trust and sign the treaty which will be stronger than that of NTP, as has been the case with USA.
United India Association asks the Labor Party leadership and delegates to view the policy to sell the uranium to India. We at UIA would like to impress and argue to change this policy to benefit not only India but also Australia in the near future. Australia should not be the last supplier of uranium to join the list of supplier’s India has but be the foremost partner in its nuclear usage.
