We, in UIA Governing Council, have examined the cover page story you took out in your news paper of October 2005. Whilst there are some very useful comments and genuine effort to make UIA more efficient, we find that majority of the commentary are based on mis-informed, biased or one sided views. Therefore we have listed, in the following table, UIA's response to some of the major issues you have raised in your article.

Become a Life Member of UIA

"The Life Membership proposal initially introduced by Shubha Kumar in the AGM 2003 on behalf of Australian Hindi Indian association having gone through due UIA deliberations and modifications, was proposed to be accepted by Dr. N. Reddy in the SGM/AGM and seconded by Dr. Orekondy. The resolution was passed unanimously".

The provision of Life Memberships in UIA is introduced to encourage active participation of enthusiastic people in management of UIA activities. It will facilitate involvement of a much wider community, give greater stability to UIA and continuity necessary to run the affairs of UIA. This gives an opportunity to those individuals who prefer to join a national forum rather than a regional association. Life Members will bring a much wider pool of talent and experience to choose the required resources from. The resolution was passed unanimously in the Special General Meeting as members saw great potential for the future of UIA and the enormous service it can provide to the community here and abroad.

UIA invites members of Indian community to join this dynamic and progressive Forum and become life member of UIA. You get to join a team of enthusiastic and committed group of people and get an opportunity to make a worthwhile contribution to Indian community.

In a few words UIA is the most effective forum of bringing our community resources together to make a positive difference to the whole community and to give our younger generation a platform of solidarity and good will to stand on with great pride and to move forward from what we build together. We have the pleasure in extending this invitation to you to work together for advancement of our community.

India Australia Fair 2003

UIA's India Australia Fair 2003, the annual event celebrated in August is well acclaimed in Sydney. This unique and versatile forum presents glimpses of India for the whole community, Indian and Australian, to share the cultural heritage of India including the food, the dresses, cultural events, tourism and many other business opportunities. It is an ideal family fun-day for every body to enjoy.

This year United Indian Associations is holding the India Australia Fair 2003 on Sunday, the 17th August 2003 at the world class venue Sydney Athletic Centre, Sydney Olympic Park. The Fair starts at 10 am and finishes at sunset.

Thousands of people attend the function every year and the number would be much greater this year at this superb venue where Cathy Freeman made history. More than 100 organizations are expected to participate in the Fair with stalls ranging from food, music, children rides, variety shops and businesses. We have invited welfare services to put their stalls to increase their awareness. Many more options are under consideration to add value to the community.

Dignitaries from the Australian Federal, State and Local Governments, the High Commissioner and the Consul General of India, have been invited to grace the occasion. Many major corporations are invited to sponsor the event. Many clients including Telecom, Banking, Housing, Consumer goods and other such industries have benefited through such sponsorships with us in reaching the Indian community in the past years. This year Sydney Olympic Park Authority, Western Union and Telstra are already on board as major sponsors amongst others.
