India Australia Friendship Fair at Sydney Olympic Athletic Centre is a shining example of unity, diversity and celebration of cultures, heritage, music and dances from the Indian sub continent. United Indian Associations (UIA) has been doing this fair for last 17 years since its inception in 1994. UIA represents the multicultural face of Indian diaspora in Sydney. It is the largest umbrella organisation consisting of 19 different organisations from India and Fiji. Our motto is ‘unity in diversity’ and our objectives are to advocate and take up social issues concerning people from our communities with the local, state and federal governments of the day.
We focus on communal harmony and India Australia Friendship Fair is an attempt to celebrate the relationships and nurture friendships between the Indian and Australian communities. The key objective is to provide a platform to celebrate the rich cultural diversity.
UIA is a social and community development organisation and is also on the forefront of translating the government policies to its communities through various forums; Senior’s forums, Women’s forum, seminars on business and trade are the activities that are held at regular intervals. These events provide a channel to engage the communities on specific information that is relevant to the specific focus groups.
Every year India Australia Friendship fair brings you the fusion of various dances, music, and variety of traditional and contemporary cuisines from top most restaurants and eateries around Sydney. It showcases the riot of colours, Kids rides, Camel rides, Heena tattoos, Bollywood stars, Indian merchandise, businesses and sports personalities from India and Australia. There are didgeridoo performances, Bollywood dance sequences, singers singing fusion of folk music and lyrics.
This year the theme is “Experience India” and many other activities are planned as well as many sports and Bollywood personalities are expected to enthral the audiences. It’s a family fun day with lots of fun for kids, youth and seniors. You can enjoy the day starting from 10 AM in the morning to 7 PM till dawn finishing with fireworks or a laser show!
The event is much sought after year after year and promises best taste of India, its culture, traditions and hospitality of Indians. The venue Sydney Olympic Athletic Centre is easily accessible from Homebush Rail Station; busses are available from Lidcombe and Auburn. There is all day car parking available for $10.00 at designated car parks.
