UIA participated in the celebration of Deepavali in NSW Parliament, Macquarie St. Sydney on 9th November 04. Exterior of the Parliament House was illuminated for the following ten days. Among the dignitaries present were Hon. John Hatzistegos, MLC Minister for Justice and Minister assisting the Premier on citizenship, Hon. Virginia Judge, MP for Strathfield, Mr. Stepan Kerkyasharian, Chairman CRC, Mr. M. Ganapathi, Consul General of India and many other dignitaries from political and religious backgrounds.

Dr. Sid Orekondy Chair UIA and Dr.Rohitas Batta, member UIA in Deepavali Festivle Committee presented the Deepavali Shawl to Hon. Virginia Judge on behalf of UIA. UIA member association representatives in the function were Dr Sid Orekondy, Mr Lalli Sethuram, Mr Onkarswamy Goopenalli, Mr Harshad Desai, Dr Rohitas Batta, Mr Raj Natrajan, Mr Krishnamurthy Toopran, Mr M S Swaminathan, Mr Davendra Kumar, Mr Mallikarjuna and Mr Krishnmurthy Toopran. A colourful Souvenir was released on the occasion. UIA's message for Deepavali was published in the Souvenir. Film screenings were done in the Parliamentary theatre.

The UIA is very proud to support and contribute first ever "Exterior" illumination of a parliament house.
